Introduction

On September 30th news swept the world that there was a coup attempt in Ecuador, with mass demonstration and riots. It turned out it was the Police force demonstrating against cut salaries. Of

course with the police demonstrating the army had to be called in to keep the order. Problem was many soliders where sympathetic with the police forces and joined in. Tear gas was used and President Rafael Correa himself had to be helped out in a gas mask. The rebellion left eight dead, airports and borders shut. However the capital, Quito, returned to normal over the weekend with people on the streets and shops opening again. Hopefully things have settled down for now. [19 photos]

  1. It’s a shame that Ecuador police put the public in danger. What do you do when your protector becomes the menacing factor. I guess that the world economy has created this dilemma. Let’s pray that things get better before this type of incident spreads around the world.
