On September 22, 2010, with the departure of the Expedition 23 crew, Colonel Douglas H. Wheelock assumed command of the International Space Station and the Expedition 25 crew. He is also known as @Astro_Wheels on twitter, where he has been tweeting space photos to his followers since he arrived at the space station.
We thought that we should put some of the space photos together as a tribute to him and the whole ISS crew. The space photos bring breathtaking views from our only off planet Vista point.
The following space photos are all visible on Astro_Wheels’ twitpic account, and we are eternally grateful to him for sharing these space photos with the world. Many have commented directly to him but we want to make it clear Triggerpit does not have any affiliation with Astronaut Wheelock nor NASA. The confusion might have been since all the captions are all his own words as can also be seen on his twitpic account.[29 Pictures]

ANSWER: With the right presentation and a little marketing, the “imperfect human” will believe almost anything. It’s been going on for centuries.
Including that we evolved from monkeys and that there is no intelligent designer. The workings of a single cell is more complex than a major city, yet people are so quick to dismiss it as chance. It’s true that people are susceptible to believing anything, but it’s also true that they defend the improbable just because they can’t see the obvious.
No credible scientist has ever made the claim that humans evolved from monkeys. full stop. Humans and Monkeys had a common ancestor. The evidence is overwhelming for it. Evolution has never posited that life arose purely by chance. Its just so typical of creationists that they have no clear understanding of the mechanisms of evolution.
They just chant their pathetic mantras that fly in the face of overwhelming evidence. Creationists are the village-idiots of the world. Go and stand on the hill top and wait for your god to appear as some ancient ignorant desert dwellers predicted and leave the rest of us to get on with reality.
It is concerning that this is one of the few rational statements and that so many people having been disappointed that there is no Santa so readily go on to believe the fairy tales of religion. Isn’t it miracle enough to ponder on the very fact of your own, and others’ existence?
What? No Santa? Where do our presents come from each Christmas then? Fools.
you are a fool
Santais as I told my children, once they had married,is a spirit , the spirit of Christmas.
How else would he be able to get around the world enter everybodys chimney in one night.
He is the parents spirit of good will towards their kids & why they buy them Christmas presents
Sorry
Science does not disprove religion. Religion does not disprove evolution. If you read the bible and realize the book speaks mostly in metaphors as well as the Hebrew word for day having multiple meanings, one of which does not have a specific time period, the story of God creating the universe and man is not limited to a single day but could be seen as taking a long time. The way that section is worded leads to support evolution.
Both religion and science are two ways to explain existence. Religion is a more philosophical attempt while Science is a based on facts and what we currently know as fact. Creationists are not the village idiots of the world, stubborn and closed minded people like you are. Though creationists and evolutionists alike tend to be closed minded and stubborn as well.
All I have to say is broaden your mind and look down all avenues, seeing the truth in each.
AMEN! LIfe is both a scientific wonder as well as a thing of wonder for all to ponder on a metaphysical level too. it takes just as much faith to believe in the seen things such as facts as it does to believe that there is a Creator. There are as many people that believe in the balance as there are people who are radicals of their own ideas. Always, always there is a middle ground.
And the truth shall set you free!
All I have to say, without reading every argument here, is: Science tries to explain how. Religion tries to explain why.
An idiot? perhaps. All I know is that the deeper I look at world with all it’s complexities, the more amazed I am. You say definitively that all who do not agree with you are idiots. I suppose then I am a fool; but I’ll present a challenge that you will not accept. Rather than yell and berate those who think differently than you, why not read and develop your arguments as to why you believe what you do. Too many people on both sides of the issue simply regurgitate the basic talking points without actually studying to see how accurate they are. I gladly accept your definition of an idiot, because my definition of an idiot is one who shouts with authority about topics they fail to examine. Look objectively at the totality of circumstances: From quarks to quasars, there is design. The argument lies in whether it was by unguided chance or with directed purpose. I’ve done my research and this is my conclusion. I would rather be an evolved monkey who dies as a fool, than a fool who dies denying God simply because his high school text book tells him to. My challenge to you: look deeper and more objectively. You might be surprised at what you find.
One final point: Thousands of years ago it was written down that those desert dwellers would form a nation despite their people being disbanded and scattered worldwide for centuries. It also said they would be the focus of world attention, prosperous, but the recipients of hatred, and scorn. As you look at picture #27, turn on your TV and explain what the chances are that events predicted centuries ago would begin to happen in “modern” times. Look deeply at the issue before commenting, otherwise it shows a lack of commitment to the truth and a propensity to slander due an to inability to be objective. Earnestly, Good Luck.
Well said Michael.
It’s so nice to see some intelligence
Luck he does not need. Faith he does need. Whether we evolved through one of God’s “days” or at creation, we are here. and we
won’t be forever. luck is not the answer.
Thanks for making a stand! Those who don’t believe now, WILL believe later. Too bad it will be too latefpr them to ask, “Can I change my mind?”
Not having anything intelligent to say, Lisa S. resorts to the scare tactics practiced by religions for untold centuries. Sorry, you’re just stardust. And to stardust, shall you return.
well said gee – agree 100%!
BRAVO!!!!!
Actually, you are the village idiot. it takes more faith to believe in evolution than creation.
I havent seen a monkey turn into a human in 50 years!..ive been watching and waiting, yet nothing.
do not criticize our thinking and beliefs and we will not criticize yours…we can co-exist you know….
so what if we believe different things, we all will discover the truth in the end.
Behold, the majesty of Almighty God!
Michael believes that the same god who endowed him with sense, reason and intellect is the same god who intended for him to forgo their use.
No, I believe in God, not a god. The problem is that people are trying to treat God as an abstract thought, rather than one who takes a personal interest in our daily lives. Instead of picking apart the above statements and explaining Ad hominem arguments, let’s reverse course. After all, it would be foolish for me not to listen objectively to others point of view. Instead of me trying to prove God’s existence, I’ll be open minded and listen to arguments as to why He doesn’t exist. We’ll even keep it simple to make it fair, you don’t even have to argue against God if you are not up to the challenge. Argue against intelligent design. I’m not saying this in a flippant manner. If I’m wrong and you are so sure you are right (using reason) then please teach me rather than just mock.
How ever said that we evolved from monkeys, we shared a common ancestor with them. Who designed the intelligent designer???
Once again we have theory presented as fact in the spotty at best chain of evolution. But let’s concede the point that we have similar DNA, does that dismiss that God could have made man? You can put a Ford (ape) next to a Lamborghini (man), both have tires, both have an engine, both have doors and windows. That doesn’t preclude the fact they they were designed with the purpose to be driven. One doesn’t have to witness the cars being made in a factory to accept that someone was responsible for the engineering (design), assembly (mechanism), testing (duration vs. deterioration), and delivery (tangible proof of existence). It seems to me that in the debate of evolution vs. creation, those in who favor creation a like marketers for the car companies.
They’ve seen the factory (personal experience) and promote what they know to be true.
Conversely, there are some who through no fault of their own haven’t seen it. So then they fall back on what they have seen. The cars exists and they are similar. But because they’ve not seen the factory, it cannot be proven to exist. Therefore the Ford and Lambo are products of inconceivable chance, and though things to be marveled, they remain without purpose.
Don’t let religion stand in the way of your spirituality and don’t let science stand in the way of your instincts! Try to look at everything objectively and open minded; trust your conscience, for that is the only god you will need. Don’t spend as much time asking why… as you spend simply enjoying everything that this universe offers, because in the realm of things we are only here for a split second! These are questions that we will never know the answers to; whether it was created or it simply happened by chance, life on this planet is the greatest gift you could ever receive… don’t waste a single second!
Wow! Such incredible photos. What a once in a lifetime experience to capture such beauty. Thank you for sharing,Mike.I am still in awe of the superior technology of this past century and looking forward to more great inventions.
For time indefinite we will argue about theories for that is all they are. These photos are real!
Amazing photos, we are so lucky to have the opportunity to see these. Let’s just hope we leave it healthy for our children to enjoy!
For a full understanding of the time scales involved to get us to our current state and awareness to appreciate these photos I suggest reading ‘Your Inner Fish’. It makes you appreciate what we are.
Why are people arguing about the existence/non existence of God instead of commenting on these views of our wonderful planet?
I think there are more appropriate places.
Just to distinguish…. There are two Michaels.
It’s true that the views are beautiful. The debate of God’s existence has been around for years and will continue for a few more. Unfortunately some of the comments are spiteful (on both sides) and tend to detract from the original purpose of this thread. It’s too bad, because regardless of what one believes, the world is a beautiful place.
Faith is the lens I use to interpret life. From my perspective the photos show the complexity of creation and serve as an affirmation of my beliefs.
,
Thou sayest it Michael– the religious discussions have little to do with the magnificent photo presented— for all to enjoy, like fine art.
It may be beautiful but it wont last forever science should be working on colonizing new beautiful planets because as long as the human race is on this single planet we are just sitting ducks we need to spread our selfs out to preserve the human race.
In every human being exists the need for creation. However, it is easy to say that no God exists. How can we fathom this existence? To have no beginning, no end…think of this. The truth is no one on this planet knows what happens when we pass from life to death. Time is only relevant to those who live within it. It is a creation of man, just as science. Fear of death is the only thing that drives us, and hope that we truly never die. How sad is that?
Beautiful. And to see the whole creation after we die !!
another village-idiot. I know exactly what it will be like when we die. Its so bleedin’ obvious it makes me wonder at how anyone could think otherwsie. When you die it will be *exactly* like it was before you were born. To paraphrase Mark Twain – “I was dead for billions of years before I was born and it didn’t bother me one iota”.
.
You won’t be ‘seeing’ anything after you die. Live your life while you are alive. “dum vivmus, vivamus!”
.
I really do feel sorry for you. I am going to spend an eternity viewing such . To think you will miss all this unless you have a change
is sad,–and its free.
I am sorry to oppose to what you have said that it is just a science and a creation of man. I guess from what you have seen from those majestic pictures those are the proof that there is a Creator who made heaven and earth from the beginning, as what the Bible says. The air that we breath each single minute God provides that for us in order to live. There is no fear when we die because God promised us eternal life after death. God loves you that is why he came to die because He loves the world, He loves all of us because we are His creations. He died because He saved us from all our sins. If we just come to Him and surrender our life to Him completely, He will forgive us and give us eternal life, He is waiting for you, my friend. Sorry if I am too forward, but I can’t help it.
How can chaos become so articulte without a creator? It seems that chaos would just keep on going around and any other shape, without direction…..God has, in my belief, done a beautiful job of creation in so many levels of life, the one we see here on earth, the space level, the worlds under the sea, the world of biology….to the world opening up to us, through God, of DNA’s level…and who knows what the plant world will lead us to….such as why do we have so many different worlds in that system also….such as the latest news coming to us that we are beginning to use plants such as fungi to cure disease… in addition to the discovery of Pennicillin so long ago?…and then the metaphysical, and spiritual…..and the world of the brain, etc…..
When viewing just the surface of the “worlds of scientific levels”, one has to believe that there is a master mind that creates, evolves as need arises, and allows human beings to use the knowledge that God gives us to use….that God allows us to be born with, knowing when to reveal to us more information and creation and imagination…
Yes! God is our creator….our redeemer….our source of information and strength to fight for our beliefs and our strength to go on fighting to survive….and our source of hope for a better future here on Earth and our hope and belief of a better life in Heaven after we die….And even from a scientific point of view, I prefer to believe in God and be mistaken than not believe and suffer the consequences of damnation….I rejoice in God in three persons, blessed trinity….the forgiveness of sins, and the life everlasting…Amen
Nice post Beth
Delightful photos. And they came on my 80th Birthday, what a present! After all this time on Earth, and I have seen a lot of it, I reckon that there are only two things that caused us to be here, Luck and Chaos, and they are in dynamic equilibrium until I die and then chaos wins. How about that?
Mike I will put your wise words in my wall on facebook. You rock man.
You atheists make infuriate me. You speak like religious warlords and you claim no religion. You are worse than the religious fundamentalists that you claim to transcend, because you possess their hatred and deny the title. If you wish to be better than a man of faith, you can have no double standard. Do not hate him, or you become him. And that’s just basic, I’ll leave out my biases.
Mike you rock! You are so right on the mark with this.
Worse than religious fundamentalists? Read the bible dude. That is what they believe. The barbarism and inhumanity is insanity.
We posses their hatred? I’m not racist, sexist, xenophobic, or homophobic. I just hate religion. Not even religious people, I’m friends with religious people, including a few fundamentalists.
You right, people shouldn’t have a double standard; “You atheists make infuriate me.” Go ahead and generalize an entire group of people, spanning every race, culture, and nationality.
Last time I checked though, hating Hitler didn’t make you a Nazi, it turned you into a bounty hunter of legend.
“And that’s just basic, I’ll leave out my biases.” LOLZ
Awe inspiring indeed. I find myself viewing our beautiful world from above all the while knowing the chaos that takes place below. I am sure many of us feel the same. Yet when I read the comments that follow it is easy to see how we have arrived at the chaos. Ahhh humans……………..
Let’s stop arguing and just enjoy the beauty of this planet from outer space….the pictures are incredible and make me think we have a lot of work to do to protect this place!!
AMAZING!!! Photo #1 is my favorite.
Reading you makes me want to go to space and stay there forever!
It’s a dream! thanks for the photos.
Astronaut Wheelock………….THANK YOU they are stunning………………words fail me
The word ‘incredible’ can barely do the pictures justice. Thank you Col. Wheelock for sharing such out of the world experience!
Si peh sui!
I am really dissapointed.Nowhere ufos?
Come to Hungary.Plenty ziganes.
What are “ziganes” ? Ciganyok?
It’s mind-boggling how these amazing pictures have degraded into a God-exists-no-he-doesn’t pissing contest.
If you don’t believe in God (as I don’t…and don’t label me an atheist, because I’m not…God is just something that I have no need to believe in), fine. If you do believe in God, fine. It is possible to respect other people’s beliefs, even if you don’t share them; just don’t go around telling someone that they are wrong or stupid for not believing the same thing that you believe.
If as you say, you don’t believe in God – then by definition you ARE an atheist. This is precisely what the word means – as opposed to an agnostic – this meaning without knowledge – someone who hedges their bets effectively.
And if you ask – I’m an atheist of course – I had an education.
Pruckels, nicely said. Just want to add, as long as your belief doesn’t say you must kill all the infidels, as nearly all religions (including Christian) have at one time or another done. Thank the infidels for reformation.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY ,IN CHRISTJESUS. HE LOVE’S ME, HE LOVE’S YOU TOO! ” HOLLY IS HE’S NAME GLORY GLORY GLORY AMEN”
We possess such amazing features, such that when we look at some meaningless shapes and colors we see so much meaning and beauty…
(Haim, 2011, again…, repeating an old perception (perception – haaa!)… renewing nothing…)
Absolutely beautiful pictures!! Made me want to go to space to witness them firsthand. Our planet is amazing, and is worthy of being taken care of and preserved.
as Mr Armstrong would sing “oh what a wonderful world”.The joy of being in space and those wonderful pictures.
I AM A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN. THIS IS ABSOLUTLEY AMAZING. NO MAN, COULD EVER, CONSTRUCT , SUCH WONDER, BEAUTY, SOLITUDE, CONTENTMENT, AND SHEAR, GLORY, IN 1000 LIFETIMES. WHAT I SAW HERE, REMINDS, AND RENFORCES MY, KNOWLEDGE, OF GODS WONDERFUL CREATION. IT IS UTTERLY AMAZING, AND POSATIVLEY AWSOME. THANKS TO ALL THE SUPER STARS OF THE INTHE US , “NASA” SPACE PROGRAM. ICAN NOT THINK OF THE WORDS THAT DESCRIBE MY AWSOME AMASMENT OF THE PHOTO PRESENTATION ON TIS PAGE. HALELOUYA, TO GOD ON THE HIGHEST. GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT MADE THIS POSSABILE.
THANK YOU LORD. YOU ARE A GREAT ARCATECT. I KNEW YOU WERE. BUT, I JUST SAW THE PROOF.
THANKS AGAIN MEN, AND WOMEN. GOOD BYE, AND GOD BLESS.
Thanks for the amazing photos. They give us glimpses of the majestic, magnificent, awesome, indescribable workmanship of God’s creations. Through these, HE displays HIS glorious powers…” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.( John 1:1-5). The WORD is JESUS CHRIST, the MASTER, CREATOR of all things, the heavens & the earth, & EVERYTHING !! We in our infinite minds could not fathom it. God is sooo BBBIIGG! HE is worthy of all worship, honor, glory, power & blessings!! HE created you & me & He loves us.We are so small, yet He is mindful of us. He knows our names, even the number of our hairs, the name of all the stars/ galaxies in the heavens. He wants to have a relationship with us. Because of His great love for us, He became the ULTIMATE sacrifice, the LAMB that was slain! It’s not about religion ( God hates religion, the tradition of men!), but what matters is whether we have a relationship with the most HOLY ONE. How we live here on earth, determines our destiny. As one Pastor had said, ” To the believer, life on earth may be the only hell he will experience, while to the unbeliever, life on earth may be the only heaven he will experience.” Think about it, Salvation is by faith, through GOD’S amazing grace. May you encounter a divine revelation of WHO JESUS CHRIST is. HE IS ALIVE & HE REIGNS!
THANK YOU NENETTE AND THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE PICTURES TRULY WONDERFUL WORKMANSHIP FROM GOD.
ABSOLUTELY TRUE AND WELL SPOKEN, GOD IS THE SUPREME AUTHORITY OF ALL THINGS, HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE THROUGH JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY TO SALVATION, HE HAS FORGIVEN US OF ALL OUR PAST / PRESENT AND FUTURE SINS. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL BEATING THEMSELVES UP AND CONDEMNING THEMSELVES FOR THEIR PAST AND PRESENT MISTAKES, THROUGH THE BLOOD OF JESUS THAT HE SHED FOR US AT CALVARY, WE ARE, ONCE AND FOR ALL FORGIVEN OF EVERY SIN, AND ALL WE NEED TO DO IS BELIEVE IN JESUS AND ACCEPT HIM IN OUR HEART, THIS ENABLES US TO RECEIVE THE GRACE THAT OUR LORD FREELY GIVES TO US, AGAIN THIS IS NOT A RELIGION ! IT IS A RELATIONSHIP
AND OBEY WHAT OUR LORD ASK’S OF US, AND THAT IS TO LOVE YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, MIND, SOUL AND STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE YOUR BROTHER AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF. IT IS TRULY AMAZING THE POWER OF GOD IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU LET HIM IN.
THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE IS INVITING ALL OF US TO BE HIS CHILDREN AND TO HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. IT IS AN AMAZING LIFE FILLED WITH LOVE AND FAVOR AND DISCIPLINE FROM OUR LOVING GOD, IT IS A HIGHER POWER THAN OUR WORLDLY CONCEPTS. TRY IT, IT IS YOURS FOR THE TAKING AND TELL A FRIEND, LOVE CONQUERS ALL.
Thanks Jase! I love your reply. It sums up of our great desire to reach out to lost souls. May their eyes & ears be opened to what the Holy Spirit is saying. JESUS CHRIST IS COMING SOON! We need to be ready. Our prayer is : “Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus!” Amen & amen!
Darwin, himself, doubted his theory of evolution. Pictures like this could make you understand why.
Please provide some evidence for this statement.
When was this? While he was studying his theory? If so then that would make sense as that is what scientists do, they investigate their theories with an objective mind and try to determine whether or not the theory is sound and modify their theories as new evidence is found. This is contrary to religion in which someone blindly follows what someone else has told them based on a 2000 year old story book, with no room for modification.
How about GRACE that God provides and FAITH through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is of the heart through the Spirit and not of the mind.
Darwin did not doubt evolution. He pondered the mechanism that could make it happen – natural selection. This was because in the 19th century he had no fossils, had not yet read Gregor Mendel’s book on heredity, and had no clue about DNA. With such paltry evidence, it is positively stunning that he could come up with probably the greatest scientific theory of the 19th century, which has been proven correct over and over again thru molecular genetics, archaeology, biodiversity, etc. He was probably one of the most humble scientists of his day.
I never realized that our planet is so beautful. Thanks to Wheelock! these pics are true eye opener.. Incredible pics from NASA…. Love them!
It’s so interesting that a few awesome pictures can spur such an argument about God -vs- no God. I wonder why this subject carries so much emotion? This is where we need a sarcasam font. Christians be careful not to judge or condemn. The word says we will be judged with the same measure that we pass out judgement. Luke tells us that Jesus sent out his desciples to spread the word. In Luke 1 he says that if a town refuses to welcome you, shake the dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.
Wow!!! What an amazing God we have that He could create such a beautiful planet! Thank you Col. Wheelock for providing these pictures!
There are some things our senses can relay to our brain and based on our own personal experience, culture and learning can be logically interpretted. Different views for each and everyone, from the same experience. We are told our DNA is different to everyone else. So too are the ideas sponsored by thes amazing photos. Thank you for sharing them. You expand my experiece. Whatever your belief or religion, can I share with you an insight I had in a moment in the beauty of nature. “The energy of life, vitalizes, co-ordinates and creates material form.’ That energy is in me at the moment, to enjoy the wonderful views you give me of the magnificent creation in which I exist. The moment the energy is gone all the chemicals and substances that make up me, literally fall apart. What that energy of life is I do not know. But I am aware it is there. Behind the awareness is only a logic that is there because of the energy. I have faith in the moment, My logic tells me there are things out there that my finite mind will not be able to understand, they are too varied and complex, so it is a waste of time to try and make something infinite into sometnig finite by description.Just as a definite description of an infinite God would deny the infite God. Just enjoy the moment. Enjoy the challenges that make life interesting. The creation is still going on… to where? Who knows this future with any certainty..If lifes energy permeates fom a GOD Just trust that the cheorogropher of this magnificent universe in which we play will allow you to play your part, be it star, be it make up artist, be it cleaner in such a way that you can do your best so that the next can do their best. There is nothing in life that is not dependent and inter dependent on the next, cell, person, community, nation, right down to the smallest plant or animal or insect or microbe. all vitalized by the same basic enrergy of life. I have never met anyone that can tell me exactly what that energy is. but by what it does I know it is there.
Ditto Quo Vadis………..you said it all!….And, very well indeed!!
Blessings!!……..from wherever they come from!!
xo
Right on Quo Vadis! Einstein as well as a few other geniuses said, “There is X amount of energy in the universe; you can’t destroy it and you can’t make any more but it is constantly changing”. So, be thankful and appreciate the time that the particular mass of energy that is your existence happens to be on this awsome planet!
How sad that you are all turning these amazing pics into a slanging match. Its not just Christians judging here, you all seem to be at it!! Christians, atheists, whatever. Why dont you try being human beings for one second, respect each others views. So what if they are not the same as someone else. How sad and pathetic that you are taking the opporutnity to rip each other apart. Should be ashamed of yourselves. Thanks to the astronaut for sharing these pics with us.
JUST ADDS TO MY BELIEF IN CREATION. JUST FOR INFORMATION, WE NOT ONLY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS AND EASTER, BUT HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY EACH YEAR SET ASIDE FOR ATHEIST ON THE FIRST OF APRIL I DO BELIEVE IN THE BIG BANG THEORY, AND I KNOW WHO PUSHED THE BUTTON.
Please NASSA, remove the comments about god and religion.
how can you look at those pictures and not believe in God! those were beautiful.
makes our dreams and hopes and us with all our “marvels” of technology so irrevelant….of course there is no white bearded grandpa making all stuff functioning,it looks more like playfull child learning on his/hers mistakes
I ditto Quo Vadis !!!!!!
Very well done!!!………..Bravo!!!
Blessings!!!
Wonderful pictures.I admire the beauty of nature and the intelligence that enables us to unravel the mystery that is life on this planet.Let’s put aside the debate of theist and atheist for in this moment lies the truth that we exist.
The atoll in the photo series is certainly Tabuaeran. The shape is unmistakeable. This atoll used to be a way station on the trans-Pacific cable from Canada to Australia. Visited briefly in 1991.
When J. Gagarin came back from his space-trip, first trip of a man, he was asked by the then CP-Generalseccrtary of the USSR, wether he had seen God and the angels up there.
Gagarin replied: “Comrade, i am a convinced Communist. But I have to tell you the truth: Yes, i saw God and Angels up there.”
“Well,” the cp-Generalsecretary replied, “that is what i always thought. But keep it secret, comrade. Because if the world knows, that would be the end of our communist ideology.”
Short time later J. Gararin was invited by the pope.
When they were alone, the pope said: “Tell me, my son, did you see God and Angels up there?”
Gagarin was remembering his promise to keep the secret and replied: “No, holy father. I saw No God and no angels up there.”
“Well, my son,” the pope said, “that is what i always thought. But keep it secret. Do not tell anybody. Because if you tell it, that would be the end of our religion.”

I find this amazing know when we started and to the present I hope they continue this work.
The way I see it is, the Bible tells us that not everyone is going to heaven, I would rather be wrong on the right side, than right on the wrong side…
or I can put it this way, If the nay sayers are right were all screwed! but if I’m right only you are screwed…
Ill take my chances with Jesus… thanks
Thanks Mr Wheelock, the pictures were incredible. Shame they provoke such odd reactions in people. Why can’t everybody just lighten up? I could produce my holiday pictures if that would help quieten things down a bit…
The pictures are awesome. Just the mere fact that they spurned a debate over the existance of God, proves that He Is.
“The heavens delcare the glory of God…” Beautiful pictures! More please
Thank you Astronaut Wheelock!
All images are fantastic! Congratulations Col. Wheelock!
Awesome photo #23, found the place with Google Earth help:
approaching the point 51° 00′S 73° 12′ W on a NE to SW course, 8km altitude at 30° inclination sight you’ll find “Lago de Grey” Chile – Grey’s Lake.
The lower lake is a natural one: Lago de Gray, the upper one at 10 o’clock aprox is the result of glacier melting inside a hollow at 200m altitude contour (see it with Google maps with Terrain feauture on).
Couldn’t find mountain on photo #15, any ideas?
Again, Thanks for all these wonderful images!!!
Can we all just be like children for a second, leave the religious debate behind and just go “Ooooh pretty!”?
This old geezer is amazed by the changes seen in the 96 years of his life.
Am neither a believer nor a atheist, but simply accept the reality of everything and try to live by Christian principals. They made the USA the greatest nation ever. The manifest reality of it all may be unknowable, but I would rather live my life as if there could be a God and die to find out there isn’t, than live my life as if there isn’t and die to find out there is. I like having God in the preamble of the constitution, on the currency & in the schools.
A state inspector of businesses gave a talk I heard that ended with these words: “and Congress has passed a million laws trying to enforce the Ten Commandments”
On the scientific side, world famous quantum physicist Alan Guth has this to say about why things are:
“All matter plus all gravity equals zero. So the universe could come from nothing, because it is fundamentally nothing. We are approaching a scenario for the creation of the universe that’s compatible with the laws of physics. That raises the question: ‘where do the laws of physics come from?’ We are a long way from being able to answer that one.”
WOW!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! TOO BAD WE CAN’T ALL TAKE A TRIP AND SEE THE WORLD IN ALL IS BEAUTY AND PEACE. MAYBE WE WOULD RETHINK HOW AND WHY WE DO THINGS DOWN HERE THE WAY WE DO.
Absolutely beautiful! I really loved the pix over Greece, the great barrier reef, & Florida. I hope we will not trash our beautiful planet.
You people are so narrow-minded, anti-god fanatics and overly religious people alike. Just accept that there are some things that we can’t understand yet, and possibly never will. Personally, I am a great believer in science, yet I believe in god also. No one can ever say that the Bible got things right, or that science is 100% accurate. Don’t deny something you cannot disprove. To quote Einstein:
“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
What we have to ask ourselves is if we are humans trying to have a spiritual experience or are we spirits having a human experience. Quantum physics has proved that an atom can exist BOTH as a particle AND a frequency wave. In its pure form it is a wave and it is a particle only when it is observed . Do we therefore exist in BOTH these states? Are we limited by our five senses in this realm?
THE PICS ARE ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE. FANTASTIC. FURTHER, READ pruckels Feb. 17, 2011.
COMMENTS. HE IS OBVIOUSLY THE MOST INTELLIGENT OF ALL WHO HAVE REPLIED.
What in heaven’s name is everyone arguing about? Fabulous pictures, amazing planet. We may not agree on the questions of God, etc, but certainly we can all agree that our world is incredible.
THANKS,MR. DOUGLAS H. WHEELOCK. YOU HAVE SHOWN US ” THE GOD’S CREATION “
INCREDIBLE SPACE PHOTOS.!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS TO MR.DOUGLAS H.WHEELOCK.
