Incredible Space Pics from ISS by NASA astronaut Wheelock [29 Pics]

On September 22, 2010, with the departure of the Expedition 23 crew, Colonel Douglas H. Wheelock assumed command of the International Space Station and the Expedition 25 crew. He is also known as @Astro_Wheels on twitter, where he has been tweeting space photos to his followers since he arrived at the space station. We thought that we should put some of the space photos together as a tribute to him and the whole ISS crew. The space photos bring breathtaking views from our only off planet Vista point. The following space photos are all visible on Astro_Wheels’ twitpic account, and we are eternally grateful to him for sharing these space photos with the world. Many have commented directly to him but we want to make it clear Triggerpit does not have any affiliation with Astronaut Wheelock nor NASA. The confusion might have been since all the captions are all his own words as can also be seen on his twitpic account.[29 Pictures]

Wow, lots of heated exchanges in these comments. Anyway, the really cool looking atoll tentatively labeled at “Christmas Ridge,” “Teriana,” and “Line Islands” is actually called Tabuaeran or Fanning Island.

These pictures CAP my 77 years of living thru wars, born in Scotland, seen many new inventions, the actual names of the invenors, to an age of new technology, at blinding speeds, enhanced by computers, that no-one really knows who is responsible any more, for all of these Human achievements. I feel it wont be that long before the public will travel out “there” sharing these views, and realizing GOD is Real. Thank You immensley. I am , Like You, One VERY PROUD AMERICAN !!

Peds, you have a real problem, you should go for help. These 3 people were risking their lives for experiments that may deal with you in some way and all you have on your mind is garbage. Grow up, or better yet go for help, you need it badly.

UNBELIEVABLE! These are absolutely astounding, thank you so much for sharing these with us! I have been truly humbled by these images. These are just incredible. They make you realize what a beautiful, brilliant, blazing spark of life our fantastic little planet is in the midst of a such a vast darkness. How truly miniscule we are! How perfectly the world has evolved and grown, though the odds seemed to be so stacked against us! As far as we know, life doesn’t exist in close proximity to us, even speaking in space terms. Yet, here we are, an entire planet teeming with all kinds of life! Amazing!

Awesome. I have climbed Uluru and it is worth the hard climb even though the Aboriginal community don’t encourage it

    • Awesome Storm October 8, 2011 at 12:11 pm #

“…even though the Aboriginal community don’t encourage it” – actually they HATE when people do that, because to them, it’s SACRED GROUND. Why did you climb it, when you knew that…?? What is with the defiant obsession of the white man to insult every other culture in the world “even though”….???

      • Liam December 2, 2011 at 1:55 am #

No one owns a rock and no one can tell me no to climb a rock.

      • John December 3, 2011 at 12:36 pm #

It is not necessary to respect and observe every ancient, afraid and ignorant culture’s nonsense.

This represents the kind of pandering and ignorance that condones backward cultures insistence of dressing women in cloth bags, female circumcision, voo doo, the evil eye and a host of destructive supersticious and kust plain wrong practices.

If some backward culture decides a damn rock is sacred, let them mumbo jumbo around it – they don’t own it, or me, and if I want to climb it, I’ll climb it.

      • Robin December 7, 2011 at 9:37 am #

Here Here! “even though” should be a stop sign! Going against a persons culture and beliefs is just rude and selfish!

Thank you for these awe inspiring pictures. They make me stand up and Praise God for giving us such a beautiful place to live.

Fantastic scenery – I was in awe! – when I saw that “green auroria borealis”! These scenes is as beautiful as the “July 4th” 2011- APOD composite video

Just awesome — What a gift for us to see our planet in all its beauty. Thank you God for all that you have given us….Help us be the ‘good stewards’ of this
Earth that you created for us to live on. Romans 8:19…For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the Sons of God
Romans 8:21 …creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.

I think it more likely that we just handed it to the Chinese…

Our government Disgusts me…Three presidents now have made War their major concern when they should be Caring for we, The People…

Those Idiots who control this country have learned Nothing from Korea, Vietnam or these Stupid, Destructive wars…

What god? Truely a mystery i don’t believe in either. There DOESN’T HAVE to be a god! Is that some sort of logic? Or hocuc pocus invented by our insecurities.

    • Wally Franiel September 22, 2011 at 9:29 pm #

I think you got it all wrong about God revealing information. Human information was accumulated over centuries and technology made possible through peoples taxes etc.The universe existed for billions of years and God only about 6500 invented by man.

Such photos make my LIFE collections of our first space explorations seem pretty dull by comparison. I can only imagine where our technology will lead us in another 4 decades. How humbling these extraordinary make one feel.
Thank you to all who made this view possible on a simple home flat screen in 2011.

    PSALMS 8:

1 O LORD,our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Thou hast set thy glory upon the heavens.

2 Out of the mouth of young men and infants hast thou established thy glory because of thine enemies, that thou mighest destroy the enemy and the avenger.

    .
    3 For thy heavens have seen the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast clothed him with glory and honor.

6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of hands; thou hast put all things under his feet,

    7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the wilderness;

8 The fowl of the air and the fish of the sea which pass through the paths of the seas,

9 O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

I am in total awe. You have given us a view of our planet that up to now was inconcievable. There must be a God. Thank you

I met you today as you talked with the children where I work. What a wonderful talented man you are and these pictures are breath taking.. I am sad that our space program is down for now, but trust that in the near future it will be back and we will once, again see you brave men and women fly into space. God speed – you are one of our heros thank you for bringing your expertise to our school and our church.

My only regret…, I am 85 and wish I had another 85 so I could see whatever new delights our sons and daughters will discover and film in the future.
My dad was born in 1904, and lived to be 97, and saw the developmnt of air and space travel, as well as land travel unthought of when he was born.
What does the future hold ?

How beautiful, and how wonderful of you to share it with us! Another reminder of how we need to take care of God’s creation and not destroy it.
I particiulary loved how the Great Barrier Reef reminded me of trees! Amazing! God bless!

No disrespect involved Im an adult thinking of a funny idea but if that lady in picture 19 was screwed an gave birth up there would that make the baby an alien to earth, like an ilegal alien how mexicans with out passports is to the usa lol just wondering an might the baby inherit or protain a hint of a slightly different possibilities of him gaining anything new like a better sense of gravity control that leads to hovering to flying like a super hero (just saying) these are the first time humans were ever in space i mean with in the shuttle era lol or a higher IQ being closer twards unusual space activeities or cosmic radiation that is unreachable from space since we have so many things like atmospheres an O ZONE layers not allowing certain rays or space chemicals from burning up meteors an stuff like that float around in space unbenounced to us even though the shuttle is still using oxygen like under the water in a submerine although Ive never heard of a baby being born on a sub either an have debates on if anything betters the human geno or IQ or any attributes or qualities of races born either under water or in space hell we already do it by races saying they are superior on the same ground level but just on differnt continents an islands lol but with all the 1000s of radiations an different ways humans are formed of how there surroundings an resorces allow them to be although the human brain can adapt faster with technology an knowing its past to get ahead in the present for better future but differnt races of humans has there own gods an dietys they follow lol i sound like an alien doing a biography on humans lol but yeah im for nasa all the way hope they find more with keplar telescope an hope they get to launch the James.web.telescope sooner than 2016 so we can find planets like ours or others with alien life on it in my life time lol come on billgates you have 64 billion dollars an you can fund james webb by yourself you greedy prick or at least feed the homeless in usa with half the money you have what the hell are you stll gonna do with 32 billion dollars lol but all in all love these pics very awsomedelic dude tubafuckinglucious whiteowl89@gmail.com im out PEACE!!!

That’s right, yet the view from space demonstrates how meaningless are political borders…

You tell ém! I noticed that as well. When you see the tiny strip of land which Israel daily struggles to defend from those who clearly and plainly say they want to destroy her… you have to wonder what’s so special about Israel that they can’t stand. Answer: Israel DOES, but the Arabs BITCH and accomplish nothing.
