Introduction

Mt Etna Erups on January 12th, 2011. It is the largest active volcano in Europe, currently standing 3,329 metres (10,922 ft) high. Mount Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of activity. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations. [23 Pictures]

Expedition Five mission onboard the International Space Station was able to observe Mt. Etna’s spectacular eruption, and photograph the details of the eruption plume and smoke from fires triggered by the lava as it flowed down the 11,000 ft mountain.   2. I appreciate the last picture it seems like a fireworks, so great! But I knew its not that easy eruption, a lot of victims were suffered.
