    Introduction

‘American Heat Palm Springs Motorcycle Weekend is an event so hot it sizzles. You’ll find stunt shows, kickin’ live entertainment and retail vendors galore. Palm Springs is a great place to play. It’s bounded by lush mountain ranges for the perfect ride and tours of the desert cities. Live music rocks throughout the weekend along with plenty of activities. Open to all motorcycles.’  – This is how they sell this event at the American Heat

Ever since Discovery Channel started airing the American Chopper series I’ve had a fascination for bikes, their builds, designs and art work. With the new Sons of Anarchy FX series, that fascination has only grown. So last year I took myself out to Palm Springs for it’s annual “American Heat Palm Springs Motorcycle Weekend”. This year, in case you want to go, the American Heat returns to Palm Springs next weekend – Oct 14 -16, 2011. If you can make it, I can strongly recommend the experience. The bikes will blow your mind. [50 pictures]

    Introduction

Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries on Earth, with over 850 indigenous languages and at least as many traditional societies, out of a population of just under seven million.

The PNG Constitution expresses the wish for “traditional villages and communities to remain as viable units of Papua New Guinean society”

The word papua is derived from pepuah, a Malay word describing the frizzy Melanesian hair.

Papua New Guinea is one of the most heterogeneous nations in the world. There are hundreds of ethnic groups indigenous to Papua New Guinea, the majority being from the group known as Papuans, whose ancestors arrived in the New Guinea region tens of thousands of years ago. Many remote Papuan tribes still have only marginal contact with the outside world.

The Goroka Show is definitely happening of the year. Thank you very much to Rita Willaert who gave us special permission to use her fantastic images. [37 pictures]
